Earthwork/Utilities Estimator

The Earthwork/Utility Estimator is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of projects to be bid. He or she prepares bids, selects vendors/subcontractors, and estimates self-perform crew compositions and production rates. He or she performs quantity take-offs using a complete and detailed understanding of the project scope.
Essential Functions
Quantify project components assigned by the lead estimator
Perform earthwork and underground (stormwater and wet utility) takeoffs and pricing for heavy civil projects
Evaluate and prepare self-perform and subcontract cost estimates of assigned discipline items
Visit project to understand site conditions/restrictions
Work with other estimating team members to build the estimate, then price assigned items in Hard Dollar
Review plans and specifications
Provide accurate take-offs
Analyze and enter quotes into Hard Dollar
Handle solicitation of subcontractors and vendors for their discipline of work
Assist with meeting DBE participation goals through vendor and subcontractor solicitations
Establish relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and specialty services

Required Skills & Experience
5-10 years of experience as an Estimator working on earthwork, grading or underground projects
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or similar discipline is preferred
Field operations experience is strongly preferred
Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Excel and Word
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Additional working knowledge preferred but not required: Hard Dollar, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Agtek, and HCSS (Heavy Bid)
Flexibility with relocation for assigned projects
